Well casing and annulus leakage are some of the major issues on aging well structure caused by corrosion and cement failure, and these have been identified surface casing leak and shallow gas leak. The surface casing leak is caused by corrosion and compressive forces acting on the surface casing. As for the shallow gas leak, it is caused by the corrosion and movement of the wellhead due to sea currents which in turn creates cavities inside of the pipeline cementing.
